If you could, kind reader, cast your mind back several months to September 2, 2013. Why?, I hear you ask, kind reader. Indeed, a good question. This was the date that The Rock was in a world of pain. For The Rock's team had just been beaten in the FFL Grand Final. Only his second loss in a grand final mind you, so he does have a good record - to be fair - in the big games.
But this was also the date that The Rock began his preparations for season 21, 2014. If it was up to The Rock, the draft for 2014 would have been on this date but unfortunately, the clowns at AFL headquarters haven't finalised the AFL teams for season 2014 so The Rock had to wait, and scheme. And scheme some more. And perhaps a little more on the off days when The Rock was not doing some general banking.
UNTIL, January 12, 2014...and finally, after months of preparation, The Rock, and the other FFL Team Managers and Coaches came together, for the 2014 FFL Draft!
As always, FFL Draft Day brings together a motley crue of ultra prepared coaches and managers, all the way through to the coaches and managers who provide a list of some description to the Co-Commissioners.
Indeed, Messrs Mitchell and Libchard, as always, did a fine job in ensuring that these teams were provided with players of their choice. For instance, Pete M, Head Coach of Away FC had instructed Mr Mitchell to draft big on Collingwood players and draft big on Collingwood players did Mr Mitchell do.
News arose that The Three Kings, an FFL Foundation team were to be coached henceforth by Tommy Dog, son of Rosscoe Markey Mark and The Funky Bunch and the new name of the team was Tom Dogs. Welcome young Tommy Dog. Go well, young man. Some interesting selections for Tommy Dog and The Tom Dogs but a decent squad to work with.
Father Cull once again drafted strongly, as did Dazzling Darren J. Mongrel and David S. Kelpie for their respective teams.
Dr Shaun, always an astute judge of character - hence his association with Benny Cousins, Chopper Read and the whole WA crew, this year drafted reasonably sedately, by his standards and it was disappointing that Jake King was not selected by Such Is Life. Nonetheless, Such Is Life look to have a solid squad.
Away FC have, as mentioned, have a strong black and white striped presence. Kostusthegame, despite Con not attending the draft, have a handy team and The Village Idiots, with the Scarlett Pimpernel in charge, have, by their standards of recent seasons, a reasonable squad.
Swami Sensation, who somehow managed to cast aside years of poor performances to win the FFL in 2008 - no one knows to this day how exactly that happened but it did - put in a rare show at the draft and came away with a pretty solid squad of players.
And what of The Rock, I hear you ask, kind reader? I am glad you asked, kind reader, for The Rock spent up big, very early. Clearly The Rock was overexcited by the draft and some serious coin was spent on, admittedly, some quality players but it did leave The Rock with about ten players to draft and about ten dollars remaining. In saying all that, as always, The Rock has a very solid squad and should feature amongst the big boys throughout the season.
And overall, another awesomely excellent draft day was held.
Thanks to all the FFL participants.
